Hello, I`ve got files with the extension .rar, stored on my computer , there are many of them but one of the files is no longer openable and gives an error message: "Packed data CRC failed in volume name. The volume is corrupt"
What was the reason - my system issue or something else I have no idea. However, I tryed to restore function in WinRAR - unsuccessfully. Can anyone suggest how to open a file?

File volume and CRC errors can occasionally be repaired with recover and repair tools available on the Internet for these types of compressed files, but I'd only do so if you have no access to a backup or you cannot obtain a copy of the file(s) concerned; this is the best method of obtaining access to corrupt rar file(s).

If in fact the rar data compressed file(s) are very important to you it's worth investing in a rar recover toolbox, but I'd use one that has a try before you buy option to see whether there is the likelihood of actually repairing that particular damaged rar data compressed volume concerned. Recover toolboxes that have an option to try before you buy usually have the restriction that the rar recovery toolbox will have the facility to view but not save the recovered file(s) to disk.

It is doubtful that there is anything physical wrong with your computer at all because the usual reason that these types of files are currupt is that they haven't been downloaded in there entirety or they've got damaged during the physical download process.

Agree. I can suggest one of such tools. Recovery Toolbox for RAR look here for free demoversion https://rar.recoverytoolbox.com/
It used to help me in the past. I like ebooks and download them often. But they are most always in archive and unfortunately in a damaged one. Seems like uploader has his archive program working improperly. I decided that if I want to read and not waste my time on repairing might be a good choice. And it was :D

Repairing RAR Archives
Step 1
Click Start and then "Computer" to open Windows Explorer.
Step 2
Click and drag all the RAR parts into the same folder. RAR files must reside in the same folder. If you tried extracting RAR files that span multiple folders, the errors may not be caused by corrupt files at all.
Step 3
Double-click the first RAR part, typically named "File.rar" or "File.part01.rar," to open WinRAR. Alternatively, right-click the file, select "Open With" and click "WinRAR Archiver."
Step 4
Click "Tools" and then "Repair Archive." Alternatively, press "Alt-R."
Step 5
Click "Browse" to choose a save location or use the default, same-folder selection.
Step 6
Click "OK" to create the recovered RAR file, named after the original RAR file with the prefix "Rebuilt."
The same folder thing might work. You should try it.

Hope it helps. At least something should work. Oh and one more thing, is downloading this archive again an option for you? If so then also give it a try.
