Found it very hard to transfer from child/adolescent services to adult services, as an inpatient. In CAMHS there was a high ratio of staff to each patient, and they were like family in some ways. They showed that they cared about each of us, and they provided a good routine/ structure for every day. Hardly ever did anyone ever "kick off."
Then I turned eighteen, so had to be transferred to the adult unit, Glenbourne. It seemed to be very daunting and I was so alone- scared. People were older, seemed bored and very aggressive. Thankfully, some people did befriend me which really helped. The Occupational Unit became my refuge, but is only available for limited hours. The canteen is like being back at school, no actually ten times worse. People spitting and throwing food after spending ages queuing up. My first meal, someone tried to put a fork to my neck, and it was only my scream that got the staff running , as they never used to supervise. In the Young Peoples' Centre, we used to sit around one big table and have home cooked food. In hospital they struggle to provide decent food, let alone cater for allergies or intolerances.
I could go on much more about this, maybe save it for another time ? Lol
