What would help you in times of crises?

I have no idea what could help anybody in times of crises. A certain doctor won't let me into the psychiatric unit, as he believes I have Borderline Personality Disorder. My main psychiatrist disagrees, and feels I have bipolar disorder, type 1. This inpatient doctor runs the local crises team, The Home Treatment Team. They were told to not take me on before even assessing me, even though my main doctor thought that I should be in Glenbourne, at least till my new mood stabiliser has helped me to feel better.
Don't get me wrong, I dislike being in hospital, but I have been told to seek help before trying to take my own life. Then when I do I am seen as somebody that I am NOT. I would never manipulate anyone or attention seek. Those dark moments where you can see no other say, than to self harm/ attempt suicide, are genuine moments of distress. I have known of friends to go to the local A&E, due to feeling suicidal. They are rarely taken seriously, and even more rarely get to talk to a psychiatrist at the general hospital. I feel, that in light of the possible suicide of Robin Williams, these problems need to be highlighted. Otherwise other people will end up dead, planned or unplanned. Maybe it's time that the government provided places of safety?
