Kodi open source media centre information

It is a great system for streaming movies from internet sites by installing plugins from the aforementioned sites for free.

I have xbmc installed on a raspberry pi, windows 7 and have had it working on an Apple TV revision 2. It's a great product and is especially useful, as you say, for streaming films and tv shows from internet sites. It also includes the Plex client, which is great if you have a Plex server running on one of your computers containing media.

By far the best platform for kodi now is the Amazon Fire TV, it' runs really fast on this environment, and beats the Rasberry Pi and Apple TV by miles. It doesn't need the Fire TV rooting and is easy to install. The XBMC remote control for iOS devices works fine for controlling kodi on a Fire TV.

For Kodi for the Amazon Fire TV the dirty regions mode should be set to 1 for union, else you will get flicker between and at the start of playing videos.

Am currently running Kodi 14.1 rc1 12 January 2015 on the Amazon Fire TV, it seems very reliable more so than any 14.x release so far released into the field. Giving it a good test by using the VEVO addon, which really exercises the system, revealing memory leaks and bugs easily over hours if they are present in any build.

Kodi 14.1 has been released for all environments and I highly recommend those running earlier releases upgrade to the bug fix release.

Kodi is now release 14.2, the most important plugin is Genesis and this is available in an easy form to add from http://tvaddons.ag via their custom addon utility with fusion. Be very careful when visiting the site, as it's easy to install unwanted software onto your PC computer, so read the instructions on this website thoroughly before proceeding quickly head first in...

There are several sites that already explain how to install kodi on the Amazon Fire TV, just do a search on the friendly search engine Google for the term "Fire TV kodi wiki", for a great article on installing kodi on this device.

Windows 8 users should be aware that kodi is a great environment for playing all video content including standard video DVD's and its totally free, it includes all the required video codecs. And it is much safer to use kodi than install codecs directly in the browser, as this often results in spyware and virus infections.

Kodi release 15 has hit the street and it is even better than before, and I suggest everyone upgrades to this release. The Amazon Fire TV, even though kodi was available in the Amazon App Store and it was removed, still works fine on this platform when it is side loaded without any issues whatsoever. So torrent freaks story published on the 16th June is absolutely rubbish in the respect that kodi doesn't run on the Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Stick.

Gaining access to some sites on the Internet for streaming purposes can be troublesome because of ISP blocks. A method that I've used to bypass these blocks for some sites is to setup an IPv6 tunnel broker routing and gain access to these sites by IPv6.

Winadb is the ukitilty that one needs to sideload kodi on a Amazon Fire TV, just search the Internet for 'kodi Amazon Fire TV' for full instructions for installation of kodi on this platform. Or install FireStarter on the Amazon Fire TV and that provides features for updating kodi on that environment, it is a good utility that I use myself.
